About Us
The Girl Scout Council of Southeast Louisiana is responsible for both organizing and maintaining the quality of Girl Scouting in 13 parishes in southeast Louisiana. Chartered by Girl Scouts of the USA, in 2006 the Council served over 10,600 girls, with over 3,600 committed adults serving as volunteers.
Our mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Volunteers are the strength of Girl Scouting, and our volunteers are the greatest support team for girls, bringing their talents, energy, and dedication to Girl Scouting. Women and men interested in volunteering in a variety of capacities are encouraged to contact us today.
The Council is governed by a volunteer policy-making Board of Directors, led by President Margie Loud Zeno. Operations are managed by a paid chief executive officer, Jackie Alexander, with a staff of about 30 full-time and part-time women and men.
Headquartered in New Orleans, the Girl Scout Council of Southeast Louisiana serves the parishes of Jefferson, Lafourche, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. James, St. John, St. Mary, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Terrebonne, and Washington.
Among its properties are two camps, Camp Whispering Pines and Camp Covington, an in-town cabin, McFadden Cabin, located in New Orleans’ City Park, and the Service Center which houses the Council corporate headquarters and a training center. Camp Covington, which received significant damage due to Hurricane Katrina, remains closed.
We are an EEO/AA organization. Underrepresented racial and ethnic populations and those with disabilities are encouraged to join. Council services are funded by voluntary philanthropic contributions, the cookie and fall product sales, fees for events, troop and resident camps, and United Way allocations in selected parishes. Girl Scouts is open to all girls ages 5 to 17 and adults who accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
