Southeast Louisiana Girl Scouts seek to raise $95,000 to commemorate 95 years of Girl Scouting

Girl Scout Alumnae Jackie Clarkson will be keynote speaker

AUGUST 2007

Local Girl Scouts will kick off their latest fundraising campaign on September 13 followed by a luncheon in November, announced a Girl Scout Council of Southeast Louisiana representative.

According to Donna Paramore, Vice President of Fund Development at the Council, the Council’s annual Every Girl, Everywhere luncheon will be held Wednesday, November 7, at the Audubon Team Room in New Orleans, and Girl Scout alumnae Jacquelyn Clarkson, has agreed to be keynote speaker.

“Jackie has dedicated herself as a public servant to the citizens of New Orleans for over 15 years and has been a long time supporter of Girl Scouts,” said Paramore. Clarkson is a former Girl Scout leader in the Council whose five daughters including Emmy-winning actress Patricia Clarkson, were all Girl Scouts.

“In Girl Scouting, we frequently say, ‘It’s all about the girls,’” said Paramore. “In fact there’s a Girl Scout cookie with the name ‘All Abouts,’ so we decided the theme for this year’s luncheon is ‘It’s All About the Girls.’ As we celebrate the 95th anniversary of Girl Scouting, our goal is to raise $95,000 which will help us to expand Girl Scouting in our 13-parish jurisdiction.”

Table captains, who are those who host a table of their friends at the luncheon, are needed. A breakfast training for table captains will be held Thursday, September 13, at 8:30 a.m. at the Brown Foundation Center Community conference room on the fourth floor in the Joe W. and Dorothy Dorsett Brown Foundation Center, 320 Hammond Highway, Metairie. The actual luncheon itself is free to attend, but cash and pledges will be solicited.

The Girl Scout Council of Southeast Louisiana serves the parishes of Jefferson, Lafourche, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. James, St. John, St. Mary, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Terrebonne, and Washington.
