Girl Scouts wanted as Part of Delegation to United Nations Conference
Deadline to apply: July 1
June 2006
Girl Scouts of the USA's International Relations Department is looking for Girl Scouts ages 15 to 17 who have been involved in international/cultural projects within their communities or councils, and are appreciative of cultural diversity, to apply to become part of the GSUSA delegation to a United Nations conference!
From September 7-9, 2005, the United Nations will hold its Annual Department of Public Information/Non-Governmental Organizations Conference, which will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. This year’s theme is "Our Challenge: Voices for Peace, Partnerships, and Renewal.”
Throughout the three-day conference, participants will have multiple opportunities to dialogue with a variety of representatives to voice their views, expand their networks, and attend workshops featuring the participation of civil society, United Nations, and government representatives. Girls will also have the opportunity to discover new ways they can make a difference in their communities.
Participating Girl Scouts will be asked to share information learned at the conference with their councils and local communities. Girls who want to be a part of the delegation should complete the attached application form, stating what they have done in their local communities relating to international understanding. They should also indicate how they intend to implement what they learned at the conference in their communities and submit two references. Costs of travel and accommodation will be covered by GSUSA. The deadline for submitting the application is July 1, 2005.
