Camp Covington longleaf planting

On February 16, about 100 Girl Scouts planted over 4,000 longleaf pine seedlings at Camp Covington during Arbor Day. Also present was Mark Hainds from the Longleaf Alliance, and Roger Reid, public TV Producer of "Discovering Alabama" and author of Longleaf, a mystery for middle schoolers set in a longleaf pine forest. The Council Shop has a limited number of autographed copies of his book for sale for $19.95 plus tax.

cabinprintThere are also still available at the shop some limited edition 18" x 34" signed and numbered cabin prints created by Girl Scout alumnae and volunteer Julie LeBlanc for $50. One hundred percent of the proceeds benefit the Girl Scouts of southeast LA. Drawings are of McFadden Cabin, a CWP A-Frame, and the Nature Center at Camp Covington.

McFadden Cabin update

You may have seen a letter to the editor from a volunteer needlessly worried about Girl Scout McFadden Cabin in Monday's edition of the Times-Picayune. Girl Scouts has a very cordial relationship with City Park management, and we are confident that our needs are being addressed by them in their development plans, and the future of the cabin is safe. There is currently nothing that troops need to do, so please do not be alarmed or worry others.
