Follow the Reader A Girl Scout Family Reading Project

In a society in which illiteracy remains a prevalent issue, the Follow the Reader bilingual family literacy series is designed to promote a love for reading among girls and their families. Designed for ages 5-11, the series content is based on the five objectives of the White House literacy initiative No Child Left Behind: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

GirlSports Basics

The GirlSports program develops lifelong health and fitness habits. A sports-readiness kit for Daisy and Brownie Girl Scouts teaches the basics of motor skills and agility, throwing, catching, volleying, batting, and more through a variety of activities.

GirlSports Fit & Fun

Fit & Fun, a component of the Girl Scouts' GirlSports initiative aimed at girls' ages 8 to 11, has 10 different skill sets activity cards that focus on fair play, cooperation, and skill progression.

Girl Scouts Against Smoking

This series of colorful anti-smoking booklets provides age-appropriate information on the dangers of tobacco and interactive activities that focus on the skills needed to make positive lifestyle choices.

Hometown History

The History Channel, in collaboration with Girl Scouts of the USA, designed this exciting community program that links Girls Scouts with senior citizens and local historical organizations for fun, educational activities. The project is sponsored by The History Channel and your local cable operator. Hometown History gives Girl Scouts a chance to explore their own communities through oral, architectural, and neighborhood history. This is a participation patch program. The patches and participation certificates are at no cost and are awarded by The History Channel. In the Zone

The In the Zone: Living Drug Free series is a dynamic substance-abuse prevention resource. The program gives girls a chance to speak and listen, to reflect and evaluate, to belong and participate, to create and build, and to succeed and grow in self-esteem. The activities provided inspire leadership, strong values, social conscience and conviction about each girl's own potential and self-worth - qualities that help girls grow strong. The program is collaboration between Girl Scouts of the USA and the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy's National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign about substance abuse among young people.
